Howard Weaver, a young journalist, was assigned a challenging task: to investigate corruption within the Teamsters union profiting from Alaska’s oil pipeline boom. Despite being from a humble background, Weaver and his colleagues conducted extensive investigative reporting and exposed a web of political, economic, and social power. Their work received recognition when the Anchorage Daily News, a struggling newspaper, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for public service in 1976. This achievement was significant as it marked the first time a paper from Alaska had won the prestigious award.
